step forward dubfire (aka ali shirazinia from grammy winning dj and production duo deep dish) whos already hit top form this summer with some tasty releases on desolat, funkwelle.net and whose thumping >emissions< features on the minus compilation >expansion contraction<. the beauty of this rework is that it doesnt stray far from the original vibe. dubfire pays the track the full respect it deserves, adding contemporary beats, bass and hat patterns, subliminal efx and tweaks that perfectly compliment the eq sweeps and machine gun snare rolls of the original. panikattack (originally released on plus 8 in 1996 as the b side to sickness) gets a more radical overhaul with guido schneider turning in a typically pragmatic version. by excavating and enhancing the gritty funk that lies buried under the feverish textures of the original, he discovers a totally new dimension. combining the plastik elements with his own trademark swing and razor sharp percussion programming, schneider coaxes the track out of the shadows for some serious peak time action as the bassline bounds forward relentlessly occasionally enveloped by stuttering delays, to negotiate its way through the dubbed out breakdown and on to the end

promise land is a solid deep soulful groove created by koyla. the demo floated around the bombay itunes player for a few of weeks, we needed someone to tear this track up. we tried a couple of options it wasnt working this groove needed something killer. thats were good friend jrod indigo come into play, san fran neo soul singer decides to come into lovely vancouver to hang for a while at bombay studio hq, and thats were the story starts for this track. jrod writes and lays down his song and creates the promise land over koylas ripping hooks and players. everyone is diggin the direction, timmy comes in and throws in some backups, inhouse producers sean dimitrie and nav take all the parts and put together a b side. the awaaz mix takes the track into a late night bumping funky direction with ambient tripped out textures and hard detroit style chords. overall this is a classic style ep with a real organic disco avour, that will never die for us. koyla and jrod are true musicians and deserve the fullest respect in this genre.

the mortimer trap is an epic 77min variation of morton feldmans for bunita marcus constructed by german experimentalist and techno icon thomas brinkmann and australian sound artist oren ambarchi. pulsating waves of claustrophobic ambience generated from who-knows-what patiently builds into a throbbing rhythmic pulse of gorgeous sonic density. since the 80s thomas brinkmann has experimented with sound, its textures and its construction methods. his custom built two-arm turntable on concept 1, the sampling of damaged records on klick and various experiments with carved-groove vinyl are just a handful of career highlights that mark brinkmann out as a true musical pioneer. oren ambarchi, primarily known for his solo guitar records for the touch label, has worked with a diverse array of artists such as keiji haino, fennesz, phill niblock, jim o rourke, voice crack, keith rowe and sunn 0))). ambarchi and brinkmann first worked together in in japan in january 2011 in a trio with mika vainio. the mortimer trap is their first collaborative work as a duo.

for the past decade or so, polish musician michal jacaszek has been exploring a new, resolutely modern chapter in eastern europes long, storied love affair with classical music. his creations are painstakingly crafted collages of electronic textures and baroque instrumentation, harpsichords being swarmed by woolly static one minute and pulled apart by billowing wind the next. ambient music - if we can generalize unnecessarily for a second - is rarely so sonically challenging.

tunisia has never been a referent place in the electronic music world. it was better known for its beaches and sunny weather, hardly for its political regime but the events of 2011 brought quite some changes about that. these changes have been nurturing in the underground of the country until exploding to the face of the world, with fantastic momentums of rebellion, courage and union. shinigami sans album is a signal that emanates from the underground of tunisia: a hybrid of dubstep, techno and noise, very dark, but most importantly, very true. this is neither the sound of london or berlin, and if a couple of ingredients from here and there are recognizable in -toys-, it is most definitely the electronic sound of tunisia we bring to you here. from the dusty, 8-bit dubstep of -lofi- and -toys- to the dark techno rollers -post trauma- and -migra-, you will go by tribal beats, eerie atmospheres and heavily distorted sound textures. shinigami san draws a panorama that shows both impressive skills and style. -toys- is not only about excellent and true music, but also about original product design and diy manufacturing. this 450 digipack limited edition was hand-printed and crafted using silk screen printing, rulers and cutters. the graphic design is based on drawings from sabrina ben hadj ali, and each cd comes with 3 original prints on the theme of the album. today, we are up to put tunisia under the radar of electronic beat diggers, today, we bring you the first album of tunisian-born shinigami san: nothing cheesy here, just a raw, brutally honest vibe.
